Your first connection
1. Open a Blueprint graph
Section titled “1. Open a Blueprint graph”Open any Blueprint with a few nodes in its Event Graph. A getter and setter for the same variable type make a useful starting point.
2. Inspect a pin
Section titled “2. Inspect a pin”Move the mouse onto the actual pin and press Alt+C. The selected source receives a blue outline; compatible targets are highlighted.
| Default indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Blue | The pin you started from |
| Green | A direct connection is allowed |
| Orange double outline | Conversion or type promotion is needed |
The source may be an input or an output. Press Alt+C over the same source again to clear.
3. Find a target
Section titled “3. Find a target”Use Alt+Left / Alt+Right to focus compatible targets. Alt+Home returns to the source. You can also right-click a pin or node and use Go to Compatible Pin to choose from a list.
Inspection does not connect pins. Drag a wire normally when you want Unreal to create a connection.
4. Follow an existing wire
Section titled “4. Follow an existing wire”Click a connected wire. Open Assistant in the Blueprint toolbar to see its source and destination. Click either node name to focus it. Use Alt+Shift+Right to follow the next connection; if there are several branches, select one.
5. Clear and continue
Section titled “5. Clear and continue”Click empty graph space to clear the trace. Alt+X or Clear Highlights / Trace also clears the active inspection.
